It has been quite a season for Danny Dietrich.
Not only because the rookie 410 Sprint car driver already has two feature wins this season at Lincoln Speedway, but never did he imagine that he would already be planning for the 2010 racing season.
Dietrich will be a hired driver when the 2010 season rolls around as he will be driving for new sprint car owner Gary Kauffman of Biglerville.
Kauffman will be a much needed new car owner for the 410 sprint car ranks in Central Pennsylvania and he is letting his driver organize and form the new deal.
“It’s very exciting knowing how excited he is about it and he is leaving everything up to me as far as ordering the parts and getting things organized,” said the young Aspers driver on Tuesday night. “That’s the fun part about it. Being able to build it the way you want instead of coming into a deal that’s already built and having to adjust to it. Hopefully we can start off next year the way we are finishing this season.”
Dietrich’s new team will use new Maxim chassis and Don Ott Racing Engines (three were purchased from Dick Leach) and Dietrich is in the process of ordering a new trailer for the team.
“We’ll run Williams Grove and Lincoln for sure and then we’ll see from there,” he added. “We don’t want to go overkill the first year and kill the budget or put a bad taste in his mouth. We’ll do it right and lay out a schedule and go from there. We are all looking forward to it.”
Kauffman owns Sandoe’s Fruit Markets in Biglerville and has been a friend of the Dietrich family for years.
“He used to bowl with my mom and my sister used to work for him,” Dietrich said. “I never knew Gary real good but I knew who he was. My brother in law told me that Gary might be interested in sponsoring so I gave him a call and he said he wanted to own a team and told me to get started putting it together.”
This is all happening while Dietrich finishes up an impressive rookie season that included two wins, five top five finishes and 8 top 10 finishes at Lincoln.
“I never thought we’d run like we did this year in my rookie season,” he said. “I think it’s pretty impressive with what we have and I know we can carry this momentum into next year with all new stuff and be competitive. My whole team will be going along with me as well.”
Dietrich said the car will be black and white and carry a new number, which they have not decided on as yet.

Wishing you nothing but the best of luck next year in the new HOT ROD.
